Wrestling is all about combining brute strength with top notch movement ability. The stronger you are, the more likely you are going to be able to control a match, however you must be able to use and apply that force correctly. At Fit Speed, we specialize in making athletes strong.
With Wrestlers, our training volume is going to be very dense: we cram a lot of work into a short period of time to make sure the athlete not only gets stronger, but gets a some strength-endurance out of the program. Being strong will do no good if you can only apply it for 30 seconds before fizzling out!
In no sport is mental toughness a factor like it is in wrestling. We emphasize a lot of crawling, sled pushes, carries and other implements that coach Dan John would consider “hard training”. This builds strength in usable ways beyond just a barbell, teaches confidence the athlete can use and implement training devices beyond the normal squat and bench, and builds fundamental motor patterns on which complex wrestling skills will be taught.
